Groton
ELECTRIC RATES LOW
— Local electric rates continue to remain lower than those in most communities across the state, according to the municipal Electric Light Department’s website, www.grotonelectric.org. The average monthly residential electric bill for Groton for the year ending March 31 was $61.28, lower than all but five communities covered by the survey. Fitchburg’s figure was the highest on the list at $100.16, and the lowest was Peabody, at $50.23; by comparison, customers of National Grid paid $76.91. The survey, compiled by the Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company, covered 43 public and private utilities. — Matt Gunderson
